In Rec Room, speedruns are play-throughs of one of the Quests with the intention of successfully completing it as fast as possible. While not required, it is customary to indicate that a player is a Speedrunner in their display name; to signal/warn other players that they will likely progress through the quests relatively quickly. See also Rec Room on speedrun.com. See Upcoming Events for information about future competitions.
Variants and Countermovement
Details relevant to a speedrun are the name of the Quest that is being run, the version (as quests are sometimes changed in updates of Rec Room), and the number of players in the team. Hiding inside of walls is considered cheating by the majority of speedrunners.
The achieved rank is considered less important in speedrunning, which led to the countermovement of "slow walkers," who try to complete the game with the highest rank in order to provide all members of the team with the best possible reward for completing the Quest. There is also a group called the "Regular Joggers", who just aim to complete the quest regardless of time or rank.
Play Style
In many levels of a Quest, one or more members of a speedrunning team run ahead to spawn as many waves of enemies as quickly as possible. This play style is very different from the safer approach of dealing with only one wave of enemies at a time.
Submitting
Records are usually communicated by posting screenshots of the final scoreboard or a video on the Rec Room subreddit: www.reddit.com/r/RecRoom. Attempts can also be submitted to www.speedrun.com/Rec_Room.
