SHOWDOWN - A NEW REC ROOM ORIGINAL
The Official Trailer of the Rec Room Original Game Showdown!
Showdown is a Rec Room Original PvP. It was announced on the Rec Room YouTube channel on August 11th, 2022, and was available in early access if one had a Rec Room Plus Membership. Showdown was released to all players on August 18th, 2022. In the game, Deputies and Bandits fight each other for control of Sarsaparilla Springs in a 3v3 Team Battle.
Showdown was created with Circuits V2, UGC tools, and Rec Room Studio.
You can play Showdown by joining the room ^Showdown in the Play Menu of your Watch, or by opening any Room Door linked to it.
Instead of Coach, Archie is the announcer for Showdown, making it the second RRO to have a different announcer with the first being Stunt Runner.
Gameplay[]
The objective of Showdown is to get 25 hits in four minutes before the enemy team. If time runs out before either team reaches 25 hits, whichever team has the highest number of hits wins the game.
Players spawn with a Cork Spinner. Cork Blasters and Cork Repeaters are scattered throughout the map to provide an advantage over the enemy team.
Every so often, The Train will go through the center of map and stop at the station, creating temporary cover against incoming corks.
Map[]
Showdown takes place in a small town known as Sarsaparilla Springs. There are several locations players can (and can not) visit during the match.
Areas[] |
|
|---|---|
| The Bank (Spawn)
The Bank is the starting spawn for The Sheriff team. It contains an open vault leading to The Mines, an upper floor with a balcony, and a desk. The balcony has a box with a Cork Repeater on top of it.
There is also bridge that connects to the General Store.

| The Jailhouse (Spawn)
The Jailhouse (or Jail) is where The Bandit Team first spawns.
The Jailhouse features two jail cells with open doors, as well as another entrance to the mines.
The Bandit Team used to sometimes first spawn in The Bar. This was quickly patched.

The Theater works as Showdown’s lobby. It is the place where you can switch teams and start the game. The Theater also contains four Cork Spinners and a small shooting range to practice aiming.

| Archibald Mining Co. (Accessible)
Archibald Mining Co. is a small building in the corner of the map. Inside of the building there is a mine-cart and a closed door. In front of the building is a hay-bale with a Cork Blaster on top of it.
Archibald is most likely another name for Archie, The Announcer.

Weapons[]
Three new weapons were released alongside Showdown.
Reloading[]
Unlike other Rec Room weapons, the Showdown weapons have an "Auto Reload" mechanic which is self explanatory; it reloads the gun when you reach the limit of corks that can be shot for each weapon. These are also made with Circuits V2.
Rewards/Costume Sets[]
One can currently acquire the following item sets from packages earned from Showdown.
Shop Items[]
The Theater contains a board with Cosmetic Items one can purchase.
Tips and Tricks[]
If you’re wanting to improve, here are a few tips and tricks to help you win more.
- The high ground is one’s best friend; one has an advantage over players on the ground. Use it as much as possible.
- The Cork Blaster is deadly at close range; the spread makes up for the lack of range and can hit all three people on the opposing team at once if they are close enough together.
- The Cork Spinner has unlimited range and is similar to hit-scan, use it in the starting rounds to get sneaky hits.
- The mines are a great way to reposition to another spot without being seen, assuming nobody is down there.
- Never stop moving; one is a harder target to hit if one is running.
- Insure one has a high frame rate, every gun in Showdown works based on frame rate. A low frame rate may he the reason why shots are not hitting. This applies to other games.

Criticism[]
Showdown is frequently criticized of how buggy it is. Below are some of the notable concerns raised by Showdown players.
General
- Can shoot through walls/objects
- Scoreboard doesn't show up on watch
- The Cork Spinner's physics are buggy
- The map was made with mostly the maker pen
- It was programmed with mostly Circuits V2
- It uses Full Body Costumes for team uniforms, which sometimes detach from your body, and don’t feel natural when crouching
- Lack of unlockable sets from rewards
- The Cork Blaster's range was nerfed immensely
- The Cork Repeater's fire rate was nerfed immensely
- Too easy to spawn camp
- Map is too small
- Games are too short
- Weapons in VR aim unnaturally down
- Weapons in VR don’t have a crosshair
- Announcer is too annoying
- Bullet travel speeds are based on ping, so if you have faster internet speeds, you have an advantage over others by seeing everything faster
- Kills are instant
- Buildings are made of UGC shapes
- Gets repetitive quickly
- You can swap movement styles in game
- In other RRO's that use the game rules chip, blocked players still become visible, but due to showdown using a custom CV2 Chip, blocked players become basically invisible
- Sometimes the game doesn't provide Cork Spinner when spawned
- Sometimes the game stops respawning you
- Occasionally the game doesn't load the circuits, forcing you to rejoin another instance
- Loading times are concerning, Showdown takes more than 20 seconds to load, while other rooms take 5-10
Irrelevant
- "It’s not a quest"
- "It’s just a bad reskin of paintball"
- "You can’t manually reload like laser tag"
- Shooting the Repeater, and then dropping it, then picking it up again caused it to become a fully automatic machine gun with unlimited ammo (This was patched within a few hours of release) (Thank you Kami for allowing me to use your video)
Conclusion
The creative community was also upset at the release of Showdown because with it came broken game-required chips such as Set Position and Respawn Chips, as well as Maker Pen tools such as Scaling and Moving. However, the devs patched these bugs within hours of release. Showdown was overall a massive mess, but some of the game-breaking bugs have been fixed. However, most of the issues have not. But we have to remember that Showdown is still a work in progress and the community hopes it will continue with its path of updating in the future.
Quote from Star Centurion:
"I will say that we will continue to actively bugfix Showdown, and we're tentatively planning on making it feel like a more "alive" room than Rec Rally. More info on that soon, it is not for me to provide. Of course, you can be continue to be the judge of that in the coming days/weeks/months." [1]
