Rec Room UPDATE - the "Winter Wonderland" edition B[]

December 15, 2021

Just a small ship to close out the year - happy holidays from everyone here at Rec Room, we hope you enjoy your time in Winter Wonderland! See you in 2022 :D

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • You can now Despawn dorm skins that you are trying so you can easily try another and find one that's best for you.
  • You can now preview an unpublished Invention's store page from your palette. This allows you to spawn it as a player getting it from the store would.
  • Both Seats and Vehicles (Rally Buggy, Trusty Pickup Truck, Classic Coupe and Wolf Ride) are out of beta!
  • The gondola no longer demands a sacrifice - players should stop falling through (or spawning on top of) the gondola when a Rec Royale game starts. Let us know if you still see this happening.
  • Trying to turn on V-Sync on your Android phone doesn't do anything, so we removed that setting from the menu. Silly goblins thinking V-Sync would work on a phone...
  • Fixed issue where players could start flying crazily if they climbed on something attached to an object they were holding. Admittedly, climbing on something you're also holding doesn't make much sense, but flying certainly doesn't! XD
  • Unfortunately, when we tried to make it so you didn't fall through the ground if you teleported inside a balloon, we accidentally made it so you couldn't teleport onto some ladders. We've reverted that fix, so ladders work again, but balloons are back to being surprisingly malicious. We promise to talk to them about it soon.

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Winter Wonderland" edition A[]

December 7, 2021

WinterClearcut

Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland is coming to Rec Room! Play some paintball and throw some snowballs in the winterized Clearcut paintball map this winter season, and keep an eye out for a lot of upcoming events! And since 'tis the season for giving, and getting, the Friendotron gets an upgrade that allows you to send free gifts to up to two people per day, including yourself!

New Buggies in Town

  • Added the Trusty Pickup Truck drivable vehicle for when you have some work that needs to get done.
  • Added the Classic Coupe drivable vehicle when you need to arrive in style.
  • Added the incredible Wolf Ride drivable vehicle when you want to show you're serious.
  • Improved collisions between vehicles and just about everything you can run into.
  • Vehicles will now do damage to enemies and players in combat
  • Vehicles are now impacted by weapons and grenades - explosions now will apply force to vehicles!
  • Fixed some issues where grabbing the vehicle bumper to reposition it didn't work as expected.
  • Various improvements on shooting experience while inside a moving vehicle.
  • Vehicle passengers will have comfort mode enabled when using the "Vehicle Only" comfort mode setting.
  • We fixed a bug where exiting a seat while looking at a close-up wall can make you go through the wall.

Interaction Volume Gadget

  • Introducing the new Interaction Volume Gadget! Put this box around an object and give it an interaction prompt like "Use", "Open", or "Obtain answer to life, the universe, and everything". When players get close to it or point their hands at it, they'll get that interaction prompt and you can respond to the interaction however you want using CV2 Chips!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Seats can no longer be targeted through walls and other obstructions. The same applies to the new Interaction Volumes.
  • Added a new button to upload photos from the share camera privately.
  • Meetup codes can now take players to the subroom they're set in.
  • Manipulating with grid snap-on should now line up with other objects in the same orientation.
  • Quitting games as they are starting will no longer break audio.
  • Fixed a bug that was allowing room chat bubbles to grow to a ridiculous size.
  • You can no longer transform/scale objects that are a child of a transformable gadget, such as a Clamp Gizmo. No more giant point lights or buggies, they'll be missed.
  • Lights now use floats rather than ints. If you have a room currently using the int chips it will still work. The chips have been removed from the palette but still function in rooms that already have them.
  • Cooldown on the Circuits V2 Toggle Button V2 has been reduced. Shooting these with weapons will now be more responsive.
  • A "Can Modify with Circuits" checkbox has been added to shapes. You now need to check this checkbox to use Set Position or Respawn on the shape. It has no additional ink cost. This addresses an issue where some objects, or parts of objects, don't get correctly moved on some platforms.
  • Fixed VR teleport cooldown to start counting at the start of teleportation instead of at the end. This brings the teleport locomotion speed close to what it was before the Stunt Runner update.
  • CV2 Buttons and CV2 Seats will now be detected by Trigger Volumes.
  • Tab characters no longer take hundreds of pixels on default value ports.
  • Respawn node now returns true/false correctly.
  • Dice V2 chip now works properly for all faces.
  • Rotating objects in trigger volume does not trigger events.
  • Players can now teleport while an impulse is being applied with a chip.
  • You can now send Circuits V2 Vector3s and Quaternions with events.
  • Breaking objects inside of a Trigger Volume V2 now triggers an exit event.
  • The picture-in-picture local player display no longer renders CV2 wires.
  • Rotator Get Rotation Speed result no longer depends on the orientation of Rotator V2.

Rec Room PATCH - the "Rec Rally" edition F[]

December 2, 2021

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Redecorate your Dorm with dorm skins! You can now quickly access them directly from your dorm mirror, and they will automatically spawn right where you want them.
  • We've simplified outfit creation! Instead of taking your own picture of an outfit we create the image for you, turning the save button into a simple one-click action.
  • Your rooms no longer need to be in beta mode to use room consumables and currencies.
  • Add two new nodes to Circuits V2: List Get First Index (returns the first index of an item in a list if that list contains it and otherwise returns -1) and List Get All Indices (returns a list of all indices of an item in a list if that list contains it and otherwise an empty list)
  • The Circuits V2 Raycast chip is coming out (of beta)
  • On Touch you can now tap directly on another player to open their profile to easily add them as a friend, party up, cheer, report, etc.
  • Fingers can be prevented from drawing while using Apple Pencil by enabling "Only Draw With Apple Pencil" in the iPad settings app.
  • Fixed Touch gestures on drawing surfaces sometimes drawing brush strokes.
  • Various environment-focused Maker Pen props now cause ranged weapons to not be able to fire while they're clipping inside these props.
  • Fixed sound effects on vehicles for when tires are slipping sideways.
  • Entering a Rec Room Seat in PSVR will now preserve your real-world facing offset from your PSVR camera. This means that adjusting yourself to have the correct facing in a seat in-game will make you face your PSVR camera properly in real life.
  • Limits added to the VR seated mode height offset to prevent clipping into the ground or temporarily getting too tall.
  • Fixed a bug where closing Room Chat when sitting in a seat using the Esc key on the keyboard unseats you.
  • Fixes SSAO for scenarios where the streaming camera is enabled along with a second camera or VR.
  • Aligning shapes on Grid Snap via Move and Scale works a lot better now.
  • Added detail to error when trying to gift an item from RecCenter storefront while under level 15.
  • Fix scrolling with pagination buttons on in-game UI.

Teleport Delay - An update on this bug's status (via reddit)[]

November 29, 2021 - JayRecRoom

Last time I made a post about Teleport Delay, I had the unfortunate news that after investigation, no progress has been made on fixing this bug.

Well today, I have some great news. We have a fix on its way very soon, which will return Teleport to how it used to be before Stunt Runner released.

As for Slowdown, this one is expected to be fixed early in the new year. We're also hoping to have Teleport Delay's fix out before the new year, but no promises here. Just know we have a fix and it's coming soon! Attached is a video to compare the current behavior VS the fixed behavior in the Rec Center. (Other RROs and UGC were tested as well)

Have a great day/night folks!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Rec Rally" edition E[]

November 18, 2021

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Never miss a notification! Now notifications will show (unobtrusively) when you are in your watch as well, so you don't miss that invite, message, or friend request. Watch notifications are also less obtrusive on Screens.
  • You can now add anchors to inventions created in your Dorm. Anchors allow inventions to be spawned in the exact location you created them, making it easier for players to get that sweet dorm setup. This is great for Dorm Skin inventions, nautical-themed or otherwise!
  • You can now access the invention details page via the palette, and spawn inventions directly from that page.
  • Trigger handle is now out of beta! We're loving the fishing rods, grappling hooks, remote controls, and other awesome stuff you're creating!
  • More fixes to vehicle suspension simulation and configuration. Still nauseating to teleporters, but now more realistically nauseating!
  • Fixed issue where vehicles would have different physics behaviors when being spawned in different orientations or when changing its mass while oriented in different ways. As much fun as bending the rules of time and space was, it's probably a more predictable and better experience this way.
  • Fixed a bug where deleting a Rec Rally buggy that you are sitting in can make you stuck in a weird animation state and prevent you from interacting with anything else. Thank you for helping us find all the weird edge cases!
  • Screens players will only party up if their hands are in the fist pose due to selecting "party up" from the gesture menu. No more partying during boxing matches!

We love to hear your feedback, so please don't hesitate to let us know what you think.

Rec Room PATCH - the "Rec Rally" edition D[]

November 11, 2021

EarningsDistributionOption

Earnings Distributions

Creators can now set custom Earnings Distribution for Room Keys, Currencies, and Consumables. Just head over to the 'Earnings' tab in Room Settings to toggle between default and custom.

Existing and new rooms default to the previous system where earnings are distributed equally between the creator and all of the co-owners. Turn the toggle off, and you can specify what percentage of earnings you want to go to each creator/co-owner.

Want to credit co-owners but not share the earnings? Set them to 0%. Did someone put in a ton of extra work building the room? Show your appreciation by giving them a larger slice of the pie. The possibilities are endless!

CV2 Networking Updates

  • Circuits V2 RPC limit is now cleared every frame instead of every 5 frames. This should allow sending ~5x as many RPCs!
  • Network heat limits are now configurable from our servers and we are planning to roll out increases to network heat in the coming weeks.
  • Subrooms with max player limits of 1-12 will allow significantly more heat.
  • Subrooms with max player limits of 13-24 will allow slightly more heat.
  • Subrooms with a max player limit above 25 will be unchanged.

Avatar Refresh

As a note, we're updating some of our older avatar items so they'll look a bit more up to date! These changes range from updating the textures and materials to be more representative of their real-world textiles (like metal buttons that look metal instead of like cloth!) to model/shape updates to be more in-style with our more recent avatar creations.Stay tuned for those changes to slowly roll out these next few updates.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • We're experimenting with showing some "similar rooms" in the watch when looking at the page for a room.
  • Added a "owned items" toggle to the avatar customization screen. This will filter down to items that you already own.
  • CV2 event names in configuration dropdowns should now appear in alphabetical order, instead of "who knows!" order.
  • Fixed a spawn point on Spillway which would spawn you without a gun.
  • Fixed an issue with the "Adjust" button not displaying on item cards when doing search in Avatar Customization.
  • Fixed a bug where VR teleport players in Seated mode could get stuck in or under a seat when they exited one.
  • Get Local Player Leaderboard Stat Node has been renamed to Get Local Player Leaderboard Stat
  • Resolved issues with multiplayer undo of chip position.
  • The Circuits V2 Vector (different from Vector3) type is now called Vector Gadget.
  • Circuits V2 Raycast now has an output port for surface normal.
  • Circuits V2 Player Add Role and Player Remove Role require significantly less CPU heat.
  • New Circuits V2 chips in beta: Add Tag, Get First Player with Role, Get First Tag, Get Object with Tag, Remove Tag, Trigger Handle Get Primary Action Held. New variants of tag chips work with individual tags but use less CPU heat.
  • The Circuits V2 Get New Line chip is out of beta.
  • Fixed a typo in the List Any True CV2 chip description.
  • Added social media sharing to rec.net! Share your in-game photos to social media.
  • New users will be able to add Rec Room friends from their platform friends or contacts list during the account creation process. Start your Rec Room experience off right by playing with your friends from your very first log-in!
  • We reduced instances of teleporting into bad collision situations.
  • Circuits V2 seats will no longer have "Locomotion Collision Enabled" toggle in their configuration menu. Instead, there is a new "Seat Collision Enabled" toggle that allows turning on and off seat collision as a whole under the Seat section of the configuration menu. Circuits V2 seats that are previously saved with locomotion collision disabled will by default have this seat collision disabled as well.
  • Fixed issues with vehicle suspension simulation that would cause wonky behaviors when configuring wheel suspension lengths or vehicle mass.
  • Trigger Handle always aims at the reticle on Screens, even while running and jumping.
  • Fixed an issue where new animation frames would not show up for other creators.
  • VR player hands are now restricted to a reasonable distance from the player.
  • VR "Aim-Flying" (where you hold the jump/teleport button and point your hand where you want to go) no longer slowly accelerates. The power to control your acceleration is back in your hands!
  • Walking VR players who are using the "Legacy Flying" option can once again press the jump button to stop flying.
  • We've tossed out all the dried-up markers that didn't work well on sticky notes and got some fresh ones.
  • Players can now interact with physical maker pen shapes on non-PC platforms.
  • Fixed a bug where you couldn't configure the Gibbet enemy in a Spawner.
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes tubes would change size as you save the room if created while self-scaling. No more sudden small spaghetti strings!
  • Some fantastic PC settings now have Ambient Occlusion enabled. The Stream camera is supported, but sadly VR is not supported.
  • We've stopped sending "I started a chat" messages from players. Now we only send a system message when first starting a chat. We also fixed a bug that was sending "I started a chat" messages when opening an existing chat.
  • Fixed an issue when it was not possible to edit an announcement message after it was created or opened to edit at least once.
  • Fixed an issue when adding an invalid room tag that prevented players from adding any other tags until that invalid tag was removed.
  • Fixed an issue with RR+ item menus stacking improperly in the Merch Booth.
  • Fixed an issue when duplicates of the same invention appeared in the "Used Inventions" list of a room's details if the invention was used more than once in subrooms.
  • Fixed an issue with tooltips not being reset correctly when navigating the menu in the cafe in Rec Center. Also fixed a typo in the motion turn setting tooltip - it's the little things, folks.
  • Fixed a line wrapping issue in the radial gesture menu and adjusted line spacing and text positioning slightly to improve the balance of space around two lined text in that menu.

Rec Room PATCH - the "Rec Rally" edition B[]

October 13, 2021

Circuits V2 Updates

  • The GetPartyOfPlayer chip that returns the party of a player was added to the beta!
  • No more randomly lingering wires after you saved your room. So long, unintended space noodles!
  • Also in beta, you can now use the Add Currency chip as often as you want! Currency may not be awarded instantly, however. Smash that money button!

Trigger Handle in Beta!

The Trigger Handle is a new way of getting input in Rec Room! While you're holding the Trigger Handle, pressing the button you'd use to shoot a paintball gun on your platform will output a CV2 signal. Make sure to turn on the beta flag in your room so you can find it in the palette! Inside the Trigger Handle object board gives you access to four events: Primary Action Pressed, Primary Action Released, On Pickup, On Release. Think of all the cool non-violent stuff you can make with it... flashlights, PEZ dispensers, squeaky toys, airhorns...

The config menu supports turning off the sound you hear when you pull the trigger.

CV2 Leaderboard Chips

Additionally, we have added CV2 compatible Leaderboard Get/Set Stat chips!

CV2 Variable Home Values

Have you ever wanted to set a CV2 variable's value via the config menu instead of manually setting it via circuits? The wait has come to an end! You can now set the value in the config menu of the following variable types: Int, String, Float, Bool

Setting the value in the config menu will also be the value that the variable resets to on room reset and when you load in!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • We now exclude Maker Pen from trigger volume detection. I'm sure this has broken some gameplay out there for someone, and we're sorry.
  • Buggy wheels will no longer go inside other vehicles or objects while in motion, and vehicles will now avoid going inside other objects while being moved. Please keep your buggy wheels inside the buggy at all times!
  • Sometimes Rec Rally Buggies wouldn't behave nicely at the race start. We gave them a nice little talking to, and they've now agreed to behave.
  • Fixed an issue where swinging a melee weapon while sitting inside a Rec Rally buggy can make the buggy go crazy. We didn't realize how much you all wanted buggy fights!
  • Tools should no longer get stuck in the environment when held by the player.
  • Fixed a bug preventing link buttons from being cloned. Just in time for Rec Con... next year!

Please see here for convenient links to controls, tutorials, comfort options, etc.: https://recroom.com/community We love to hear your feedback, so please don't hesitate to let us know what you think.

Rec Room PATCH - the "Rec Rally" edition A[]

October 5, 2021

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • The "Cloud Data" settings tab mysteriously disappeared. We tracked it down, and put it back in the Room Settings tab bar.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented NavMesh from baking in rooms based on certain maps (including Park and Clearcut).
  • Fixed a bug in ^RecRally which would result in lingering vehicle sounds if somebody left the room during the game start countdown. No more ghost cars!
  • Made it so you can't grab other players' vehicles during ^RecRally games.
  • Made it so you can't grab vehicles while in a seat.
  • The wheels on the buggy go round and round, but will no longer go inside other vehicles or objects.
  • Players will now be locked in their seats during the starting countdown in ^RecRally.

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Rec Rally" edition[]

September 28, 2021

RecRallyBeautyShot1

Okay Racers, start your engines! Today we're excited to introduce Rec Rally! Rec Rally is the six-player off-road rally race where you boost, bump, and powerslide your way to the finish line! For the first time ever in Rec Room, jump into the driver's seat and put the pedal to the metal as you cruise around an all-new environment showcasing the beautiful sights of Rec Room's dusty southwestern countryside. Hop in, buckle up, and welcome to Pioneer Peak! (You can finally stop asking for Go Karts in every AMA!!!)

Rec_Rally_Clip_from_Ship_Notes

Rec Rally Clip from Ship Notes

In addition to a brand new course to race around with your friends, we're also releasing our Rally Buggy into the Maker Pen Palette as a Beta feature. The Rally Buggy works great right out of the box no matter what platform you're playing on, and it comes with all kinds of tunable, Circuits-integrated features for you to experiment with and create your own unique driving experiences! We expect it to be "buggy" so we wanted to play it safe and include the Beta flag because we expect more work will be needed to make it extra awesome.

Race_Track_Template!

Race Track Template!

The Rally buggy holds up to three players at once. Everyone in the Buggy, including the driver, can pick up, throw, and use tools, just like you can everywhere else in Rec Room. So you and your friends can count on using the buggy for so much more than just racing games!

The Rally Buggy is yours to dress up, customize, and overclock to your heart's content. We can't wait to see and experience your creativity in new and exciting ways! If you want to build a race track of your own, checkout and clone the new race track template room.

VehicleInputMethod

FYI: VR players will have the ability to switch between two distinct driving modes in the Rally Buggy. Check it out in the gameplay settings and use whatever you're most comfortable with!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • VR players can now select room tags to search without having their watch detach automatically.
  • Added "Interact Labels" for VR players. These helpful bits of UI explain how various objects work. For example, when reaching for the steering wheel of the new Rally Buggy you will see a "Drive" label appear. You can always disable these labels in the Settings Menu under Gameplay by un-checking the "Show Interact Labels" checkbox.
  • The "View/Leave Comments" button makes its glorious return! Now you can once again tell a room creator "i like ur room."
  • Circuits V2 Beta Releases: Bit AND, Bit OR, Bit XOR, Bit NOT, Bit NAND, Bit Shift Left, Bit Shift Right, Bit Pop Count (number of ones), Bit Leading Zeros, Bit Trailing Zeros, Bit Rotate Left, Bit Rotate Right, and Quaternion has been added to port configs.
  • Fixed issue where chips with white ports wouldn't work consistently like Add Velocity or To String.
  • Fullbody costume performance has been improved.
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes the "Use" text on the consumable buttons in the backpack would disappear. Non-consumable consumables are just no fun.

Beta Changes

New Circuits V2 chips: Show Local Subtitle, Clear Current Subtitle, Raycast

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Best Friends Forever" edition[]

September 21, 2021

Room Consumables

Creators can now sell consumable items in their rooms using the new consumables button and chips. Consumables can be anything you can imagine, if it can be done with CV2 it can be activated by a consumable. Players are able to purchase consumables repeatedly and then activate them from a new tab in the backpack. Each use of a consumable "consumes" one instance from the player's inventory.

For now, creators will need to enable Creative Tools Beta Content in their rooms in order to use the new circuits. We expect them to be fully out of beta before the end of the year.

Here's how it works:

  • Create new consumables from the Room Settings menu. Give it a name, description, image and price (RR+ members only)
  • Add a Consumable Store Button to your room from the MakerPen palette. Configure it to the consumable you want to sell. This is where players will be able to buy your consumables.
  • When a player uses a consumable the "Consumable Used" event will be fired in CV2. Listen for that event and when it is triggered you want to apply the effect of your consumable.
  • Immediately after you apply the effect of the consumable you need to mark the consumable as active using the new ActivateConsumable chip. This consumes one instance from the player's inventory.
  • Once your consumable effect has worn off (which may be immediately after taking effect or sometime later) you can deactivate the consumable with the new DeactivateConsumable chip.

Look for a post on our Community Commerce page for additional details. Have fun and let us know what you think.

ReferralRewards

Forever Friend Fest

You all enjoyed Friend Fest so much that we've decided to permanently reward you for referring your friends

  • Similar to Friend Fest, both you and your referred friends will have to verify your accounts with a valid phone number to qualify. You can do it on your watch (Profile --> Phone) or on rec.net
  • Juniors can now get rewarded! Verify your account with your parent or guardian's email in your watch or on rec.net
  • Choose from a selection of 3 random options (which can include tokens!) for each reward you earn.
  • You can see which of your invited friends have joined Rec Room, and if they've verified their account.
  • Access the new page from your watch --> Invite button.
  • We'll still have events like Friend Fest where we'll stack on even better bonus rewards!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Added a search bar to subpages under the Play menu.
  • We've brought back the launch argument that lets PC players log into their account directly, without having to hit "Play" on the title screen. Just add +username:MyUsername to your launch args. (This will only work for accounts that you have logged into previously and are set to remember your password.)
  • Really long room names will no longer look bad in the UI. Time to make a new \^Rooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!"
  • Called in a service technician for the malfunctioning Friend-O-Tron machine in the Rec Center. It will no longer open other players' watches when used.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the first brush stroke on a brand new canvas from being saved when there were no other brush strokes. Just like golf, every stroke counts!
  • Fixed an issue where turning off beta content in a room would result in an infinite loading screen for everyone who tried to go to the room. Your rooms are open for business again!
  • MicrophoneWarning
There is now a continue prompt before microphone access confirmation (no more skip option).

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Bento Box" edition D[]

September 14, 2021

EventsNewUI

Event Instances and Details UI

Event pages have a whole new look! You can still do everything with an event that you could do before (RSVP, invite friends, and manage settings) but the detailed look matches more closely to our rooms pages. Creating and browsing events is still the same format as before.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Thanks for having the patience to grow a beard, players can now select hair patterns for their beards and mustaches!
  • We moved featured inventions into their own carousel to give visibility to a wider variety of inventions throughout the store. A carousel invention on the invention carousel? Talk about a paradox!
  • Some text elements in Cloud Data Settings were not the right colors. They will now stay on theme with the rest of the UI instead of turning white due to the lack of sunlight.
  • Unpublished rooms will now be displayed as "Private Room" in the friends list instead of exposing the room name, no need to name your secret project ^CoachPizza87 anymore!
  • Fixed a bug with the "scale creation with self scale" option which only allowed you to make really tiny shapes when you self-scaled down and were using a small grid size. Thanks for the heads-up!
  • Removed the "New by Top Creators" section from the Play menu.
  • The "Player is Subscribed to Room Owner" chip is now deprecated. Existing chips now show red text and will always output true.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Introducing Friend-O-Tron

Surprise your friends with free stuff!

  • The Friend-O-Tron is a special new vending machine located in the Rec Center. Once per day, you can use the Friend-O-Tron to send one of your friends a free gift box with a random prize inside! Of course, you can also receive gifts from your friends too, so go make some more friends, and see how many boxes you get each day!
  • Limit one box per player as well as per device per day. This means that two different players can't send gifts from the same device on the same day. You also can't send to the same player two days in a row, so spread the love!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Some users will start getting an updated chat UI. We'd love to hear what you think! It has some new features like favoriting chats and searching for threads. We'll be tuning and building out the new UI as we enable it for more players.
  • Added the option to report players for harassment against teleporting locomotion.
  • Fixed the dark, scorched-looking terrain in the Rec Royale map. Ranger Roy fixed the sprinkler system!
  • Fixed a bug where beta features were sometimes incorrectly disabled when editing room settings. They were “beta” after all :P
  • Circuits V2 Cloud Variables are now out of beta!

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Bento Box" edition B[]

August 31, 2021

A small batch of feature improvements and bug fixes this week - hope you enjoy!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Added 'smile' to the emote wheel and expresso menu. No more frowns in your group photos, unless you're into that kind of thing.
  • Fixed club settings to redirect to the club details page after saving changes. No longer do you need to scroll back through your 72 unique clubs to find the one you were working on!
  • Maker Pen Tubes/Ribbons now have 3 analog options: Off, Brushstroke, and Raw. Leave it on Brushstroke for more predictable results in your tubes, or Raw to be as accurate as your trigger!
  • Saving changes made with the maker pen recolor tool now behaves as expected. (Wow, they fixed it... color me surprised.)
  • CV2 Gadgets should no longer be missing their tethers to Control Panels. Now your gadgets will look even more spaghetti-like.
  • Fixed a bug where friend introductions sometimes showed up blank.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Bento Box" edition A[]

August 24, 2021

Bit of a small update this time around!

  • Players on mobile with auto-fire enabled can also automatically reload now! Pew pew pew!
  • Sushi is no longer upside down in the store...we talked to it and it won't try doing flips anymore.
  • Fixed screen players in PVP games getting partially stuck in aim down sights mode if they get K.O.ed while reloading when using aim down sights.
  • Fixed an issue where player icons were incorrectly stretched when viewing messages in VR.
  • Fixed an issue with the Reset pin on the Animation Gizmo not always working properly.
  • New CircuitsV2 SetPosition chip: sets the position and rotation of a player or object.
  • New CircuitsV2 Respawn chip: respawns a player or object.
  • Removed a CircuitsV2 error log when a variable was being automatically renamed.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Bento Box" edition[]

August 18, 2021

Sushi_in_Rec_Room

Sushi in Rec Room

Sushi!

Grab your closest fish eating friends and mow down a box of some premium Rec Room Sushi! Nibble on crunchy hand rolls, feast on delightful nigiri, or just chuck them at your friend's face! Either way, it's sushi time!

  • Each box of sushi contains 9 pieces - various shrimp, tuna, and salmon nigiri, as well as 6 crunchy hand rolls.
  • Each nigiri has one tasty bite.
  • Each hand roll has 2 crunchy bites.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Coming soon! Room currencies will be out of beta so all creators can add currencies to their rooms!
  • Get your tokens faster than ever! When you buy tokens from the store, they're added to your balance immediately instead of being sent in a gift box. Now instead of confusing players that don't open their boxes, we'll confuse players that are looking for their boxes!
  • More rooms that were experiencing infinite load times should now load correctly. No need to be scared of the dark on certain platforms. (Though, the Forbidden One might still visit from time to time...)
  • Fixed a scenario where players could attach an object to their hand without actually holding it. No more magic shows, sorry!
  • Fixed an issue where players sometimes couldn't see the stage in ^3DCharades if they already sat down before the game started.
  • Charged melee attacks (on screen mode) no longer move your character when seated. Hmm, idea for the next RRO... office chair fights?!
  • Fixed animation popping when creating a new avatar - that was distracting!
  • Fixed font issue on signs for player-made rooms in ^Orientation. Don't worry, we didn't make it Comic Sans.
  • Fixed an issue where rooms were sometimes displaying the wrong capacity. This should make it easier to find a room that your group will fit into!
  • Circuits V2 'Player Subscribes to Room Owner' chip now includes a delay of a few minutes before it will perform the subscription check.
  • Circuits V2 'Get Player By Account Name' chip now returns an Invalid Player if there is no player in the room with the given account or display name, rather than throwing an error. In other words, we now give you a specific error, instead of a generic error!

Beta Changes

  • Resetting and deleting cloud variables now forces a save.
  • Creating a subroom no longer deletes or resets cloud variables.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Room Home Screen Update (via reddit)[]

August 13, 2021 - Ryukiin

Thanks to everyone who tried the new Home Screen and gave us your feedback! While we work on optimizations, we are going to temporarily disable it to increase your performance. It will be back soon!

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Take Me Home" edition[]

August 11, 2021

New Home Screen

  • We have a new home screen and navigation. We now have a navigation bar at the bottom for frequent-use-features that you can access regardless of where you are in the UI. The home screen itself features a new layout that includes snippets of cool rooms and items for you to check out!
  • Orange Color Scheme Everywhere - We switched color scheme of the UI from the dark purple to orange scheme like the login screen

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Unlocked the Pride hoodies for all players. Now everyone can show their pride in style! (You get a pride hoodie! And you get a pride hoodie!)
  • We've made it possible to turn off syncing for Text V2, Pointlight V2 and Spotlight V2. When syncing is disabled, Circuits can be used to set the local properties of the object, and each player will see their own value. This can be used for showing secret information ("You're the imposter!") or effects (turning on night vision lights) to a specific player.
  • Fixed an issue where CV2 list variables were defaulting to being invalid. They now start as empty lists.
  • The quick chat buttons for room chat can now be physically pressed if you're in VR. (And who doesn't like pressing buttons?)
  • Fixed a bug where picking up and dropping a pool cue using both hands in VR would break it.
  • Fixed an issue where using the arrows to browse the play menu would skip some items.
  • Fixed iOS notification preferences not saving correctly. (Sorry if we pinged you when you told us not to!)
  • Fixed a periodic frame rate spike for PS4 players. (One down... many to go.)
  • Fixed an issue with date formatting if your device is set to use some non-Gregorian calendars.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Please see here for convenient links to controls, tutorials, comfort options, etc.: https://recroom.com/community

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Electric Sheep" edition[]

August 6, 2021

We're live on Android!

Some of you have already noticed this, but Rec Room is now available on Android everywhere! Download on the Play Store to start playing Rec Room on your Android phone or tablet! Device not supported? We'll be routinely supporting new devices with future updates. Also with this update, we now support notifications (friend invites, event reminders, etc.), just like on iOS!

Self-Scaling Improvements

We've made an (long-overdue) update to self-scaling! This should tackle a bunch of Quality-of-Life issues:

  • Laser pointers now scale properly as you do.
  • Menus and tooltips follow your size.
  • Shape and tube previews follow your size - this means you can draw huge tubes if you scale yourself up. (You can turn this off in your palette settings, if it's not what you want.)
  • Grid size updates with your scale (can be turned off under settings)
  • Off-hand interactions works at any scale

(Not-Self!) Scaling Improvements

We've touched up the Scale tool a little bit! Non-uniform scaling (using the colored scale handles on shapes, trigger volumes, invisible collision, etc.) should now behave more intuitively in world-space mode, taking into account the rotation of the object, and anchoring it in a reasonable spot. Check it out! We've also fixed two little bugs along the way:

  • Fixed a bug where shapes would sometimes fly away when being scaled in world-space. There's no escaping the scaling now!
  • Fixed a rare bug where spheres would shrink unexpectedly when being scaled in world-space. Pretty sure this one's been there for years and nobody noticed... Whoops!

Maker Pen Touch Controls

The Maker Pen now has touch controls for every tool that work by tapping objects directly on screen. Whether you are selecting, moving, recoloring, configuring, deleting, or even spawning props... there's a tap for that! Some tools/elements support dragging interaction such as Move, Rotate, Scale, and we added Manipulate and Wire to that list as well.

Related to touch, there's one more thing - iPad, Apple Pencil, and the Maker Pen combine to form a creation power-tool, and we think you're going to love it. The Pencil can run all Maker Pen tools anywhere on screen, and with pressure sensitivity too! This works especially well when creating tubes and also pairs well with surface snap. Pencil 2 supports the double-tap shortcut to switch to the last used tool.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • We've updated our texture projection logic in order to remove stretching artifacts on shapes with extreme scales. Enjoy a clean look on your scaled creations! Your old creations are unchanged, and the old style can still be used by configuring a shape to not use 'Dynamic Projection.'
  • Fixed some flickering when changing pages in the store.
  • Fixed an issue where PSVR players would see random, bright colors in the player's peripheral vision (especially noticeable in Rec Royale).

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room PATCH - the “The Dye is Cast” edition[]

July 27, 2021

Don't forget to check out the new beta CV2 feature, Cloud Variables, at the bottom of the patch notes!

Whishlists_in_Rec_Room

Whishlists in Rec Room

Wishlists

We've added wishlists! See a cool item in the store but don't have the tokens to grab it right now? Wishlist it! You can access your wishlist from your profile page. Wishlists are publicly visible, so you can check out what your friends are wishing for, and make their day with the perfect gift!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Other peoples' torsos will now look normal when walking on glass, scaled up, or scaled down objects, instead of flying all over the place.
  • Fixed a bug in Spillway where players who ended up under the floor (either on purpose or by accident) wouldn't always respawn.
  • Fixed the Costume Equip chip sometimes not working. It will now always work perfectly with no bugs ever. We promise.
  • Fixed an issue where gift packages had stopped appearing for some players. They got mis-routed in the mail system, but should all be out for delivery now!
  • Fixed some bugs where settings appeared wrong after logging out and back in.
  • Fixed the blocky text on the Room Details screen when closing and reopening the Watch Menu.
  • Fixed a bug where, in VR, you were required to hold down the slide button to keep sliding if you were also sprinting.
  • Fixed a bug where, when using VR in seated mode, having auto-sprint enabled would pull you out of a crouch after sliding. Now it will wait for you to un-crouch yourself.

Beta Changes

At last, here it is! What you've all been waiting for!

  • Cloud Variable option is now available for variables.
  • Use the config tool on a variable chip to enable cloud variable mode.
  • Each player has their own unique copy of each cloud variable.
  • Cloud variable data will be reloaded if you leave a room and come back.
  • Cloud variables with the same names in different subrooms of the same room have the same data.
  • The following types can be cloud variables: int, float, bool, string, Vector3, Quaternion
  • New CV2 Chips: Bit AND, Bit OR, Bit XOR, Bit NOT, Bit NAND, Bit Shift Left, Bit Shift Right, Bit Pop Count, Bit Leading Zeros, Bit Trailing Zeros, Bit Rotate Left, Bit Rotate Right

Bugs Fixed

  • Some instances of incorrect wires being displayed have been fixed.
  • Saving a room now always fixes incorrect wires.

Rec Room UPDATE - the "The Dye is Cast" edition[]

July 20, 2021

In our never-ending quest to increase a player's ability to express themselves through their avatars, we have added the ability to apply some super cool dye patterns to your hair!

Ombre, layered, stripe, and highlight patterns are now available for all of our hairstyles. Whether your style is natural and subtle or wild and wacky, pick your favorite and show your friends!

To start using Hair Dye Patterns: https://imgur.com/a/kCgjiYj

  1. Select the hairstyle you wish to use, then click on the “Color” button.
  2. Choose a pattern, there are 4 pattern options.
  3. After selecting a pattern, you can change the color of just the pattern, or both the pattern and base hair color.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Added a Code of Conduct poster to the Maker Pen under Decor. Use this to remind your players of Rec Room's rules, but don't worry about it costing you ink, as the first instance in every room is free.
  • Players will no longer be able to initiate a vote kick against opponents during a match in Paintball, Laser Tag or Dodgeball.
  • No more random event invites interrupting your gameplay. Only those that you have RSVP'ed to will pop up when they start. Those you marked as a maybe will alert you via your watch, but they will not open.
  • Circuits V2 Chips are now included in the "Show Gadgets to Everyone" setting! You no longer need to give players maker pen permissions to show them your CV2 circuits and wiring. However, while the "Show Gadgets to Everyone" setting is enabled, CV2 chips will now cost the same amount of ink as CV1 chips. Don't worry though, CV2 chips still won't cost ink if you don't have this setting enabled as they were before this update.
  • We have additionally done some work so that there is only a certain number of CV2 chips fully visible at any point to improve performance. We also turn off the text on chips when you're at an unreadable distance.
  • Fixed an issue with CV2 sync fields not synchronizing.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some CV2 rooms to not load at all.
  • Fixed an issue that caused some Spawner Gadgets to appear unconfigured.
  • Fixed an issue with lighting changes as you moved the UGC palette menu.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

"Teleport Delay" - Update on the Issue (via reddit)[]

July 20, 2021

Hey there everyone, an issue that's been brought up to us quite a lot is one the community called "Teleport Delay", which wasn't there before Sept. 2019. I'm making this post to say, we've had our team look deep into this bug all week, but unfortunately we were not able to find any issues where the teleport code was doing something wrong. In particular, there was no difference found in the timing of when you trigger teleport affecting the delay, so we are currently pausing on investigating for now (that said, it doesn't mean we're done with it, we'd communicate that if it was true, which it isn't). It's not as easy to fix as a magic wand swish (though, I wish that was true), but we needed to communicate our status on this issue to all of you and not leave you all in the dark. Expect more updates on annoying bugs like this one in the future, this is just the start of our better communication with you guys.

- The Rec Room Team

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Costs an Arm and a Leg" edition[]

July 13, 2021 - [also known as the "Cosplay" edition]

Full-Body_Costumes!

Full-Body Costumes!

Full-Body Costumes!

Get ready to give your costumes a leg up...

For the first time ever you can create and wear costumes with fully-articulated arms, legs, and bodies!

Full-Body Costumes come packed with full-body animations that give life to every move you make. Walking, jumping, teleporting, even moving around in room-scale VR - it's all there!

FullBodyDummy

You can get started creating a rad new animated costume today by spawning and editing a Full Body Costume Dummy from your Maker Pen Palette.

  • It's found in the Gadgets category under the CV2 Gadgets filter in the Maker Pen Palette.
  • It works just like the classic Costume Dummy. Use your Maker Pen to edit a body part and start creating!
  • There are now 17 editable body parts, up from 3 in the classic costume dummy!
  • You can use Circuits V2 to equip/unequip a costume, and see who is currently wearing it.
ConfigurablePoses
  • Configurable Poses! Use the Configure tool of your Maker Pen and select from the Poses dropdown. We've found these useful for getting into hard to reach spaces while creating and fun when displaying your finished costume.
  • It supports hiding outfit items - use the Configure tool of your Maker Pen to select Hide Outfit Items.

If you prefer classic costumes, worry not! The regular Costume Dummy is still available, and unchanged, in your Maker Pen Palette.

...but that's not all. We've got a very special feature for VR players!

VR Seated Mode

Ever get tired of standing all the time? Maybe you play sitting down but wish you didn't have to look shorter than everyone else in the room? Wish no longer!

Seated Mode automatically adjusts your in-game height so that it doesn't matter whether you're sitting on the couch, lying on the floor, or standing up - you'll still appear standing to everyone else!

Seated Mode is a more flexible and comfortable way to play Rec Room. Your height will only be adjusted when it looks to have meaningfully changed - like when you stand up after sitting down. This means that, with Seated Mode enabled, you can still dance around in VR to your heart's content!

However, because crouching or crawling can be physically hard to do while sitting in a chair, Seated Mode adds a new VR "crouch" button. Just press it once to start crouching and press it again to stand back up. Hold the crouch button to go prone!

Crouch uses the same button mapping as sliding. For example:

  • Oculus - use the right thumbstick click
  • PlayStation - press the Circle button

If you're in VR, you can toggle Seated Mode on and off in Settings > Gameplay in your watch.

Quick Room Chat

Quick_Chat_Menu

Quick Chat Menu

Introducing the new Quick Chat menu! Need to send messages to nearby players in a hurry? We've got you covered!

When you expand your Room Chat window, you'll see a new button called "Quick Chat"! Press it to open a short menu of response types, and easy one-click messages like "Yes" or "No". With a few quick button presses you can plan a game, coordinate room travels, or even make a new friend! Don't let the lack of a mic get you down!

Got something else you wish you could say in a hurry? Let us know!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Jumping is now more realistic than ever for you motion animation connoisseurs. Look for freshly-tuned head motions and less slide animation jitter.
  • Owners and co-owners should have an easier time seeing that they won't be charged for key/currency purchases in their own rooms.
  • We fixed some conflicts behind the scenes that were causing low volume issues on iOS.
  • Added the "Enter Code" button back to the Events, Clubs and Play menus of the Watch Men., Invite to your heart's content!

Circuits V2 Updates

General Changes

  • Reroute chip added. Use it to organize your wires
  • Chips can now be recolored with the maker pen

UGC Bug Post #3 (via reddit)[]

July 13, 2021 - JayRecRoom

We're back with another UGC Bug Post!

What is in each post?

Each posts contains the following:

  • A list of bugs we have fixed internally1 or that are releasing soonTM
  • A list of bugs we are working on, but have no ETA for fixes yet
  • And lastly, a section dedicated to UGC bugs that YOU think are high-priority that we might not be aware of yet2

1 Fixed internally means that a bug is fixed, but we're not yet sure when it will ship. When we know a fix is shipping in the next update, we'll clearly mark it as "next update".

2 When we say UGC bugs, we mean UGC bugs. We'll have a template for you to submit your own bug report in-thread in this post. =]

Anyways... Let's get started!

Fixed internally/Releasing soon

  • The CV2 Chip Limit is increasing to 3000. [Next Update] (This is not a bug, but we felt like we needed to communicate this change in this post as well as the next update's patch notes).
  • CV2 List Variables are not reset to empty lists. [Next Update]
  • Piston distance can be set to NaN or Infinity. [Next Update]
  • Some rooms with AI have unconfigured CV1 Spawners [Fixed Internally] (Heads-up, this is a bug that slipped into the next update! We have a fix for the one after already, but we're giving a heads-up. You can workaround this by deleting the Spawners and replacing them with new fresh ones).

UGC bugs we are working on

  • Walking on Glass or Invisible Collisions can twist non-local bodies in a really weird way
  • Slowdown bug (Even more progress has been made since the last bug post)
  • Clamped objects can jitter and lag behind the parent object
  • Vectors cannot be sent through any synced event sender in Circuits V2
  • CV2 Trigger Zone doesn't trigger object exited when a breakable object is broken inside
  • Selection bounds on Maker Pen Palette can double and persist if "Show selection bounds" is enabled when switching between Maker Pen tool modes.
  • [Not UGC, but putting here] The delay between teleports seems to be increased than before when spamming the Teleport button.

How to submit a UGC bug you think is high-priority

  • To submit a bug report, join our discord server: https://discord.com/invite/recroom
  • From there, in either #recroom or #bug-reports, type !bugreport
  • You'll receive a private message from RecBot with instructions, follow them one at a time
  • That's it! We'll receive your bug report!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Take a Seat" edition D (via reddit)[]

July 8, 2021

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Magic door button
Are you feeling lucky? This update introduces the Magic Door which you can find in both the Rec Center and the play menu. Entering the magic door will bring you to a fun random room to explore! Try it out! The shiny new Magic Door button!
  • We adjusted the outlines on the KO sprites to make them look nicer. No witty comment here. They just look nicer.
  • Spectators in charades can move again. (Turns out, this has been broken since 2017! See!? We fix legacy bugs sometimes!)
  • You can't use the feedback tool to block dodgeballs any more. Now you'll just have to rely on catch-outs. sigh

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Please see here for convenient links to controls, tutorials, comfort options, etc.: https://recroom.com/community

We love to hear your feedback, so please don't hesitate to let us know what you think...

... And a quick FYI! We are aware about an issue in this update where tree leaves in Rec Royale might look... More jpeg-y than before. We fixed this a few minutes too late, so it'll be fixed in the next update instead!

Rec_Room_is_Coming_to_Android,_And_We’re_Celebrating_With_Exclusive_Items!

Rec Room is Coming to Android, And We’re Celebrating With Exclusive Items!

June 30, 2021

Bit of a small update this week! (We've got some other things going on... in the works.)

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • We've improved the way the Maker Pen Configure menu is positioned. No more sneaking up behind you or acting like it's trying to hide something. Now the Configure menu can either travel with you as you move around (similar to other menus), or you can pin it in the world so it will stay put while you work. And to reposition the menu, you no longer have to headbutt it! You can now move it around wherever you want by clicking and dragging the top bar with your hand laser. There are also controls to resize and lock rotation. Check it out!
  • We are increasing the maximum number of keys per room from 25 to 100! Now you can sell that custom sword in every available colour.
  • We've made some improvements to room chat! (You know, that chat window on the inside of your wrist in VR, or... on the screen... on screens.) We now have some new sound effects, animated speech bubbles, indications when other players are typing, and it is auto-focused when you open it on screen mode.
  • We added clearer messaging when trying to place inventions in rooms where you don't have permission. It will still annoy you, but at least you'll know why.
  • We fixed a bug where, if you equipped an outfit from a gift box, you wouldn't be wearing it the next time you logged in. We just liked your old outfit better!

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Quick Bug Post (via reddit)[]

June 25, 2021 - JayRecRoom

Hey everyone! This week, we shipped an update that broke a few things with creation tools, I'm here to give an update on those bugs.

Currently, we have a fix internally for the issue where textures would reset with inventions saved before the update, or saved in rooms using old materials. This fix should be coming soon, but we don't have an ETA to give yet. I will update this post when we have an ETA.

Another bug is that lights (point lights and spot lights) don't work anymore on Quest 1/2 on maker pen shapes. We're actively working on a fix, but we don't have an ETA for its release yet. Once again, I'll update this post when we have an ETA for this bug as well.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Have a good weekend everyone!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Take a Seat" edition B[]

June 24, 2021 - Lucian Hardner

Introducing Creator Announcements v2

  • We're introducing some new announcement types! If you're a creator or a club owner you can send messages to your members/subscribers about rooms, events and inventions as usual, but you can also send links to clubs, players, codes and even show off photos!
CreatorAnnouncementCV2
  • If you're subscribed to creators or members of a club, you can view these announcements in your "Messages" tab like usual, or you can always find announcements from the club details or player's portfolio page.

New Shape & Material Improvements

We had a look at how materials work and added some improvements, as well as 2 brand new materials and one brand new shape to help with terrain!

  • Blurry and repeating patterns on materials are now less noticeable, we added more details when looking at all materials from afar or from close up!
  • Stretching materials is now consistent between both tubes and shapes.
  • You can now scale and move the texture on your creation! To do so, edit into an object with the Edit tool, use the Configure tool to configure the shape you want to scale or move the material of and you'll find plenty of new options in the Config Menu to do so!
  • Your old rooms are unchanged, but if you want to try the new materials on them, go to This Room > Subroom > Use New Materials.
  • We added 2 brand new materials: Grass and Rock!
  • We added a new simple shape that can help with creating terrain and sharp-edged geometry like mountains: Diamond!

Seats Improvements

We've been excited to see people experimenting with seats, and creating awesome rooms that depend on them. We were less excited (though not too surprised) to hear that they had a few bugs when they first released. (That's why they started as beta objects!) This week, we've got a few quick improvements to make things better.

  • PSVR thought it would be funny to seat you meters above the ground. (It made us laugh a bit, anyway.) We sat down, took a look, and got it fixed. PSVR players should now be at the correct height when using seats.
  • A seats exploit allowed you to be faster than Stunt Runner champions, even Gramps! Seats have had that speed power revoked - no more super-speedy players in rooms!
  • Seats were apparently very eager to have VR players sit in them. If you were anywhere near a seat and tried to grab a Laser Tag gun, for example, you probably found yourself in a chair! We've made this kind of "unintentional sitting" much less likely. (But let us know if you find a place where it still happens!)
  • We also fixed a weird kind of "delayed seating" that could result from grabbing something and a seat at the same time.
  • Fixed issue where spamming enter and exit inputs on a seat could leave you trapped in it.
  • Tired of walking through chairs? Now chair-like props in the Maker Pen Palette can be configured to support Locomotion Collision Detection! Just use the Configure tool to toggle "Locomotion Collision Enabled" on or off.
    • Chair-like props already saved into rooms will keep their current locomotion collision values so creators don't need to worry about any unwanted changes to their rooms.

VR Scrolling Improvements

VR controllers with thumbsticks/trackpads now support scrolling when aimed at menus!

  • If you are on SteamVR and using a custom controller binding, be sure to add the "Scroll" input (see the default controls for an example).
  • If you'd prefer to always use the thumbsticks to walk/rotate, you can turn off thumbstick scrolling in the watch under Settings > Gameplay.

Config Menu Improvements

We've made a bunch of improvements to the new Maker Pen Configuration menu. We got a lot of feedback that it wasn't the best, so we've taken a first swing at making it better, and we've got plans for more in the future. (Seriously, thanks to everyone who spoke out about this one - that helps us find the worst pain points and iron them out.)

  • We tuned the default menu placement so it fits better on screens, is easier to aim around on touch, and is just further than the VR keyboard so they don't intersect all the time. (Finally I can stop headbutting the config menu!) We're still working on a way to move it around manually, but rest assured it's coming!
  • We've increased the information density: less spacing and padding, more config...ing? Configging? Configurating? Sure, let's go with that.
  • We added buttons in the top bar to expand or collapse all foldout sections.
  • The VR keyboard is no longer ghosted out when in front of the menu. No more disappearing magic tricks from the good ol' keyboard.
  • We've made a bunch of small quality-of-life improvements, including color previews and better input field behavior. (No more closing the menu to confirm a change using the keyboard, finally.)

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • A rock decided to play hide and seek with mobile players in Disc Golf, we told it the game was over and it is now visible to everyone!
  • When receiving tokens from a box, we now add commas/periods to make the number more readable. (50,000 or 50.000 instead of 50000) We can only assume that the number shows upside-down if you're in Australia.
  • We've added some new iOS push notifications for event reminders and receiving gifts from friends. (That's right! You can now send your friends a push notification by gifting them everybody's favorite item: film.)
  • In case your friends are spamming you with push notifications by sending you film, we've added iOS notification preferences for event reminders and gift notifications.
  • If you open Rec Room on iOS by clicking on a push notification, you'll skip right past the login screen. (For those times when you need to open that film package ASAP.)
  • Facilities has removed a few things from the Rec Center in order to make room for some changes. They still haven't cleaned those smudges on the walls, though. Who even cleans this place? Oh well.
  • We fixed a bug where the doors in the Rec Center wouldn't properly open the watch in front of teleport players.
  • We fixed a bug where the VR Keyboard and Watch Menu could be obscured by dialogs behind them.
  • Some visual optimizations that were previously only available to Quest users are now available to mobile users for better performance.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Take a Seat" edition A[]

June 14, 2021 - Lucian Hardner

Invite Friends

Suggested Friend Invites

Tired of all the lame excuses your friends give you for not joining you in Rec Room? Well, we have now made it harder for them to resist! Now, iOS players can invite people from their contacts list and Steam / Xbox players can invite people from their platform friends list to join Rec Room with one click! That's right, just one click!

  • To access this feature, open your watch --> Home page --> Invite button on the top right corner.
  • The list will only show people who haven't played Rec Room yet. If your friend is not a Rec Room player but isn't on that list, you can still copy and share your link with them. We don't know why some don't show up, but hey, that's Rec Room for ya!
  • Friends who sign up for Rec Room using your invite will automatically get added as your Rec Room friend when they return to their Dorm after completing the tutorial. See? Their resistance was futile.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • The Streaming Camera was previously only available for PC VR, but is now also available to Screens PC players with a second display -- no VR headset required! This was supposed to land with the streaming camera improvements, but a minor Unity upgrade broke it. Whoops! (At least Rec Room doesn't require focus again!)
  • AI from CV1 UGC Spawners will now properly despawn on Game End. No more zombie goblins sad trombone.
  • When objects manage to get below the ground in ^RecCenter and Maker rooms, they will now return to their last spawn position instead of their last pickup position.
  • We fixed the bug in VR where doors wouldn't open if your hands were full, so now you don't have to put down your donuts to use a door. You're welcome! (who says we don't fix important bugs?)

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Take a Seat" edition[]

June 7, 2021

We've got an exciting one this week. You're gonna want to make sure you're sitting down for this...

Since the dawn of gizmos (and maybe even before), creators have been making rooms which put you in a vehicle and move you around. The classic trick, used as far back as 2018, was to keep the player in one place, and instead move the entire world around them. Things got a little easier once we added proper support for moving platforms, but it still hasn't quite been possible/easy to just sit the player down and move them around... until now!

How_to_Recroom-_Seats

How to Recroom- Seats

Announcing Seats!

  • There's a new BETA Prop in the Maker Pen Pallette: The Seat. It's a small cushion that Players can interact with to be Seated onto stuff! It includes a CV2 Circuit Board that allows you to put players on or off of the Seat, as well as restrict them from manually getting on or off. Make sure to enable BETA objects in your room if you want to use the Seat prop!
  • Players can now "sit" on Seats on all platforms! This means:
  • When you grab a Seat cushion on chairs and couches, you'll be automatically transported to the Seat, at a reasonable height, and facing forward along the Seat's orientation.
  • While Seated, players' movements are restricted to stay within the Seat.
  • While Seated, players' bodies are rigidly attached to their Seat. If the Seat moves, rotates, tumbles, or goes upside-down, the seated player will go along for the ride!
  • All old chair-like Props (Chairs, Couches, Stools, etc.) have been upgraded to use the new Seated behavior. If you don't want that in your room, you can disable it through their Configuration menu with the Maker Pen.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • We're working on giving creators the ability to create currencies inside their rooms. You may see some new beta chips/props related to currencies, but these are currently in closed beta while we work out the kinks - we're looking forward to making them available for everyone soon!
  • The following Circuits V2 chips have been moved out of beta:
    • String Contains
    • String Get Length
    • String Split
    • String Split at Index
    • String Substring Index
    • String To Lower
    • String To Upper
  • The following Circuits V2 chips have been added to beta
    • Angular Velocity Add
    • Angular Velocity Set
    • Player Left Hand Orientation
    • Player Right Hand Orientation
    • Quaternion Create Angle Axis
    • Quaternion Create Euler Angles
    • Quaternion Create From To
    • Quaternion Create Look Rotation
    • Quaternion Euler Angles
    • Quaternion Inverse
    • Quaternion Rotate Towards
    • Quaternion Rotate Vector
    • Quaternion Slerp
  • Fixed an issue where having too many CV2 wires in a room could cause them all to not render at all.
  • Club announcements now appear in the messages menu.
  • Fixed a rare crash with Sticky shapes.
  • Spatial audio now works correctly in SFX V2.
  • Fixed a bug where the UI would break in front of sparkle effects.
  • Fixed a bug on iOS where the number in the notification badge wasn't being reset properly.
  • Fixed default sorting for Play menu search results.
  • Fixed scrolling issues on the Play menu.
  • Fixed a bug where changing the sorting on some UI pages would cause a blank tile to appear.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Circuits V2" edition D[]

June 2, 2021

Dear Creators, we've given the Streaming Camera some love:

  • Once you've activated the Streaming Camera, there is a shortcut to the Stream Mixer from the home page of the watch
  • The Streaming Camera now has a light on it. You can adjust the intensity and range of the light in the Stream Mixer Settings. Note: this light is only for the player using the Streaming camera -- other players won't see it. Think of it as a camera filter!
  • The Stream Mixer also has a new option called Voice Mixer -- use this to soften voices as you see fit.
  • Frame Rate, Field of View, and Light Settings are now persisted to your account
  • And to make your productions even more powerful...

Dear Creators, Introducing... the Streaming Camera Point gadget!

  • Streaming Camera Points can be wired to gizmos -- have fun making an animated camera rig invention!
  • The Streaming Camera Point can be found in the Palette under the Gadgets > Other Gadgets
  • Each Streaming Camera Point shows up in the Stream Mixer -- use the arrows to cycle through them!
  • Each Streaming Camera Point has a configurable Camera Name. Unnamed cameras will just show up as "Custom #" in the Stream Mixer with a number in the order they were spawned.
  • Each Streaming Camera Point has a configurable Transition Time. By default, the camera smoothly follows the target over a short amount of time, but you can choose the Instant option if you want no smoothing.

CertifiedInventionsInStore

Certified Inventions

In this update we are introducing Certified Inventions! "Certified" is a seal of quality. Before an invention is granted Certified status, we review it to ensure it works well, is efficient, and follows best practices. Certified Inventions can be identified by the signature blue banner in the Invention Store.

At first this list will be curated by us to emphasize CV2-powered creations, but we plan to open this up more in the future to any invention. For circuits-powered inventions especially, we may request changes to follow best practices and optimize heat usage.

If you have an invention right now you think fits this criteria, check out Certified Inventions!

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a hang during ^Orientation for PS4 users with their system language set to Arabic, Thai and potentially others.
  • We updated the doors in ^RecCenter to use our new room search menu. We also noticed that the community door in ^StuntRunner was getting a little stale, so we updated it to show all rooms with the #StuntRunner tag!
  • We've found and fixed a bug that we believe was causing some of the invincibility issues players have been seeing in RROs (especially ^Paintball). We'll be keeping an eye on this and related invincibility issues, so if you are still seeing this issue or variations of it, please let us know through our feedback channels!
  • A confused goblin decided to steal buttons from the Room Settings page instead of the Golden Trophy, we've got them back in their right spots!
  • Scale and Manipulate were a bit down, so we've comforted them and they should be much better now!
  • Fixed an issue where deleted events could still be seen in the upcoming events tab.
  • Fixed a bug where play menu tabs sometimes showed the wrong rooms.
  • Fixed an issue where the outline effect wouldn't show correctly on Oculus Quest.
  • Fixed an issue where the palette search would not work.
  • Fixed an issue where you could no longer Self-Scale properly.
  • Fixed a Config Menu issue where VR players couldn't type in slider fields.
  • Fixed CV1 Trigger Zones not registering decoration objects.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

UGC Bug Post #2 (via reddit)[]

May 28, 2021 - JayRecRoom

We're back with another UGC Bug Post! This time, we have some exciting updates about 2 big bugs!

  • Invincibility3 [Next Update]
3 We've found and fixed a bug that we believe was causing some of the invincibility issues players have been seeing in RROs (especially ^Paintball). We'll be keeping an eye on this and related invincibility issues, so if you are still seeing this issue or variations of it after the next update please let us know through our feedback channels.
  • Self-Scaling doesn't work [Next Update]
  • Scale and Manipulate don't work properly [Next Update]
  • Bake NavMesh and Delete Room buttons are gone [Next Update] (A goblin got confused and stole those buttons instead of the golden trophy, we got them back though!)
  • Decoration objects don't work with CV1 trigger zones... Again [Next Update]
  • Palette search is broken [Next Update]

UGC bugs we are working on

  • Walking on Glass or Invisible Collisions can twist non-local bodies in a really weird way
  • Slowdown bug (We made really good progress on it! Expect more news in the next bug post!)
  • Clamped objects can jitter and lag behind the parent object

How to submit a UGC bug you think is high-priority

  • To submit a bug report, join our discord server: https://discord.com/invite/recroom
  • From there, in either #recroom or #bug-reports, type !bugreport

Rec Room PATCH - the "Circuits V2" edition C[]

May 24, 2021

Play Menu Upgrades!

  • The "New" tab is back! This page shows you some rooms that were recently published, so you can be among the first players to check them out.
  • Quick filter bars have been added to the "Hot" and search pages. This lets you narrow down the type of rooms you want to see with just a few quick button presses.
  • The Play Menu's top bar now includes a set of tags from the hottest rooms! Use these buttons to create a custom search that brings you to rooms with the latest trends. This is also a great way to find new contest rooms!

We're also trying out some new format and layout changes, so please let us know what you think!

Screen Toss Improvements

  • We improved dropping/tossing objects for screen players. You can now underhand toss any object you're holding with the drop button, while also being able to drop objects in place like before. (So yes, you can officially juggle with your screen friends now!!)
  • Press and release the drop button to do an underhand toss, or hold it down for a moment to drop what you're holding in place.

New tubes!

We finally fixed tubes! Long-time creators know that textures get distorted on the end caps of tubes in weird (and sometimes useful) ways. As some of those creators know, this was never actually intended, and is a bug we've wanted to squash for a while, in order to let people create tubes that have the same look on all of their faces. That time is finally upon us!

  • Don't worry! Old tubes look the same as before, so your old creations are safe!
  • Newly created tubes won't have texture artifacts on their end caps by default.
  • If you're really craving that "classic tube" look, you can use the Configure tool to set tubes to use it.
  • Bonus! You can now use the Configure tool to change the number of facets on a tube!

https://imgur.com/a/eKCBudV

New Configure Menu!

We've 'configured' the Configure Menu to have a brand new look!

The Configure Menu is no longer a part of the Palette, it now pops up in world-space when you configure an object!

The UI is now vertical, you can scroll up and down to see all the configurable options on an object.

Options are placed in categories, you can drop down or close categories however you choose.

The new menu follows you around and looks at you, but if following you is not your building style, or knowing something follows you gives you shivers, you can pin it to a location by hitting the pin button at the top right!

Updates to Codes

  • Creating a code is now done right from the page of the watch that the code is for. Room codes are created on the room's page, event codes on the event's page, etc.
  • The button to use a code has been moved to the profile page.
  • The old Codes button on the homepage of the watch has been replaced by a new Invite button to make it easy to invite new people to Rec Room.

General Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Introduce your friends - you can now send introductions to help a friend meet your other friends. This feature is accessible from your friend's profile page and when you are notified that someone has accepted your friend request. Gribbly, meet Beeboz!
  • Added the ability to click on a player's name to view their profile if you are in close proximity to them.
  • The Maker Pen "Create Grabbable Objects" setting is now a slider with a new "Object Default" option. Circuits, gizmos, shapes, and some props default to non-grabbable with this option, and basically anything that you can throw will default to grabbable. At last, you don't need to remember to mark every paint pistol you spawn as grabbable!
  • Added a confirmation dialog when unpublishing a room.
  • Added carousels to the shop to display the newest inventions published by creators you are subscribed to. Be the first to know about that sweet new dorm room skin!
  • Added a screen prompting new players to accept the Code of Conduct the first time they leave the dorm.
  • For older players going into ^Orientation, we now make sure not to override your movement settings to the defaults.
  • Removed the unintended dot reticle for darts on screens.
  • Fixed a bug where the left arrow on the account selection screen sometimes didn't work.
  • Fixed a bug where using the back button in the watch while creating a club could get you stuck.
  • Fixed UI bugs where start and end game buttons were not updating when they should.
  • Fixed the "switch team" button not working sometimes.
  • For iOS players, we've adjusted some button sizes and priorities to make it less likely that you accidentally drop items when attempting to use them.
  • Fixes visual popping on the login screen.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room PATCH - the "Circuits V2" edition B[]

May 13, 2021

General Improvements

  • Friend requests now show mutual friends! Now you'll know if that request is coming from a friend-of-a-friend, or that random person you met in ^Paintball!
  • Oh snap! We fixed the bug where snap rotate sometimes wouldn't snap at all if you were set to "world-space" mode.
  • We changed how single-axis world-space snap rotate works. (You might say we... pivoted.) Previously, if you were using grid snap in world-space mode, and dragged on one of the colored rotate handles, objects would sometimes along several axes at once. Now, we really restrict the rotation to the axis you've chosen, and your maker pen will figure out how to get you on the global rotate grid for that axis. We think it feels pretty snappy.
  • We fixed a bug where, if you managed to let go of the rotate handle while an object was snap rotating, it would get left part-way between the snap angles. You needed to be really quick on the trigger to find that one!
  • We fixed the bug which prevented "tap rotate" (when you click on a rotation handle to quickly rotate 90 degrees) from respecting the "rotate around pivot" setting. We talked to it about the value of respecting that setting, and it assured us that it has turned over a new leaf.
  • Updated Orientation Settings Menu to prompt players to use both controllers for a better experience.
  • A bunch of the gadget volumes (invisible collision, trigger volumes, checkpoints, etc.) had developed a reputation for drifting when being scaled. This isn't a road race, so we're now anchoring them properly. (Shapes would sometimes do the same thing, and we fixed it for them too.)
  • Fixed a bug where the "My Subscriptions" section of the play menu wouldn't update when you subscribed to a new creator. Now you'll see their rooms right away!
  • Fixed a bug where players could host events in ^Orientation - we know this was fun, but facilities kept having to clean up before the new folks came through!
  • Fixed a bug where the "Join Room" button would be disabled if you tried to leave a room, were prompted to save, and backed out.

Rec Room PATCH - the "Circuits V2" edition A[]

May 7, 2021

Party System Improvements!

  • A Fist Bump icon is now displayed next to the names of players who are in your party.
  • When you are in a party, there is now an "In Party" button that shows on your watch menu. The button has the same color as your current party color and links to the new Party tab on the People menu.
  • You can now restrict "Voices I can hear" to just party members.
  • The Go To button now detects existing party / game invites and consumes those if you have an existing one. Clicking Go To will just consume the invite and take you to whoever invited you instead of sending a new Go To request.

General Improvements

  • New watch menu UI is much more responsive and consistent on all platforms, even when running/falling/moving.
  • Lots more screens in the new UI style including RR+, keys, and token purchasing screens. In addition, we have a new and improved "check out" experience when you buy items.
  • Small buttons are more reliable to press.
  • Menu laser is more visible over light themed backgrounds.
  • Scrolling starts easier on screens when clicking and dragging.
  • Tool menus are partially improved with these changes (on screens, and VR while the menu is detached). We will make the menus better while attached to the tool soon!
  • Avatar customization menu is larger in VR.
  • We now preserve returning players mic settings through orientation.

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Circuits V2" edition[]

May 4, 2021

Circuits_Version_2_Released!

Circuits Version 2 Released!

New Circuits System

This release is the debut of a brand new Circuits system (known as "Circuits V2" to differentiate from the existing Circuits). Circuits V2 is a powerful new system for creating interactive stuff in your rooms! Check out resources here for more info:

http://recroom.com/cv2

Things to know:

  • This is the first of many Circuits V2 releases. You can expect us to regularly release updates, improvements, and new functionality now that the system is live.
  • Circuits V1 isn't going anywhere. It will stay around to power existing creations, and you're welcome to keep using it - especially since there are still some things that V1 can do that V2 can't do yet (e.g., animation). Eventually we'll put Circuits V1 into "legacy" mode, meaning it will still work and receive bug fixes, but it'll be hidden by default in the palette. At that point, V2 will just be "Circuits" =]

We can't wait to see what you build with the new Circuits system!

New Room Settings

The Room Settings pages have a whole new look and even more features creators can use to customize their rooms! Following the style of the new store and play pages, the room settings have been updated and improved with new UI.

Feature improvements include:

  • Easily change your room name, cover image and description from inside the game (Thanks for waiting on this!)
  • Customize your room's loading screen
  • Choose any photo from your room's photo roll to use as a cover or loading screen image
  • Rooms may now have one main category tag (#pvp, #hangout, #game, #quest or #art) and up to 5 custom tags to help players find your room
  • Room creators may now designate a different player as the room creator or delete the room (Careful, only the room creator has full control over the room settings, and deleted rooms are gone forever!)
  • The new subroom management page allows you to add, clone, and delete subrooms from a room
  • Quickly move a subroom to any other room you own
  • Max player count for a room can be set to either the size of the smallest entry subroom, or the size of the smallest subroom (great for #game and #quest rooms that have a tutorial subroom)

New Party Menu

  • Added a dedicated Party tab to the People menu.
  • This lets you see who is currently in your party.
  • "Invite to Party" button lets you select and invite multiple friends or nearby players to party up.

General Improvements

  • Fixes a bug where UI buttons could drift if clicked too fast.
  • Fixes a bug where UI buttons played multiple click sounds for a single click.
  • Fixed a bug that occasionally prevented users from undoing a deletion of an object, or redoing creation of an object that was recently undone.
  • Fixed ears turning on unintentionally for old saved outfits.
  • Lowered the chance of having a beard when randomizing the avatar.
  • New setting "Show Voice Lines" so players on all platforms can turn this off and take cleaner screen recordings. Find it in the watch settings, advanced tab, next to Show Names.
  • Fixed an issue where hitboxes could be missing on players.
  • Fixed an exploit where spamming pickup would prevent hit detection.

As always, thanks for playing Rec Room!

Rec Room UPDATE - the "First Impressions" edition B[]

April 22, 2021

Mirror_Prop

Mirror Prop

Dear Creators, Introducing... the (Beta) Mirror prop!

  • The dorm room mirror you know and love has been repackaged as the Mirror prop with a minimal, recolorable frame and configurable physics modes.
  • All mirrors (the Mirror prop, the dorm room & rec center mirrors, etc.) are now fully supported on Oculus Quest. No more solid color background!

https://imgur.com/a/X5l5Rax

Please note that to make the Mirror prop possible, we've had to put some protections in place:

  • Why? Mirrors are quite costly in terms of performance. There's no way around this.
  • While the mirror is in beta, its ink cost is slightly over 50%. We will reassess ink cost when it comes out of beta.
  • There can only be 1 mirror per room. E.g. if you can't spawn a Mirror in your dorm since there's already a mirror there!
  • Reminder that to use a beta prop, you must enable beta content in your room settings.

General Improvements

  • Fix Anonymous cheers showing the sender
  • Add an auto message to the trolling report category for "Art griefing"
  • Add a profile button to portfolio page

Beta Content Changes

  • The multiple In and Out chips inside of other chips have been changed into single In and Out busses.
  • Recently used chips will now sort closer to the top of palette search.
  • Most events in objects now run for everyone. Filter chips have been added after the events to try to pick a best player to run for.
  • Type name billboarding has been improved on both VR and screens. The billboards are a more suitable size for screens. The billboards no longer rotate with your head or move around as much while moving your head in VR.
  • Log string channel configurations now sync correctly
  • Some exceptions are fixed on the CV2 palette page
  • Some exceptions are fixed with the Player Get Equipped Objects chip
  • Player Reference Boards are no longer be left behind in rooms when players leave
  • Toggle Button V2 has correct Pressed and Released data for all players.
  • Ports on the Delay chip have been arranged into the correct order.

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Color Me Impressed" edition[]

March 12, 2021

Dear Creators, Introducing... Material/Color Eyedropper!

  • We've added a brand new Eyedropper tab alongside Materials and Colors in the Palette
  • Just use the Select Tool to select some objects and choose the Eyedropper option on the revamped Quick Action Menu
  • When you choose Eyedropper, the materials/colors from your selection are added to your Eyedropper history
  • You have an Eyedropper history of up to 16 items
  • If you select Eyedropper for a material/color combo that's already in your history, it's moved to the most recent slot rather than taking up duplicate slots in your history
  • When you hover over an Eyedropper item, the tooltip shows the Material and Color names
  • When you select an Eyedropper item, this is equivalent to selecting the material and color from their respective tabs
  • We now better visualize the currently selected item under the Material/Color/Eyedropper tabs

Room statistics on rec.net

  • You asked, we’re delivering! All new room stats are now available on rec.net -> Profile -> Stats (bar chart icon). We want to add more stats in future, so let us know what you’d like to see!
  • We are slowly rolling out the weekly room summary emails to active creators.
  • If you want to receive these, make sure you have an email set: On rec.net -> Settings -> Email. In game -> watch menu -> profile -> Email
  • You can disable these on rec.net -> Profile -> Settings (gear icon) -> Email -> Your Room Summary

General Improvements

  • VR players using walking can teleport to get out of self-scale again. We broke this a while ago, so it's about time we fixed it!
  • Fixed a bug which caused VR-to-screens handshakes to complete immediately. Now you get to hear that sweet drumroll again!
  • We also brought back the handshake feedback for VR-to-VR handshakes. It's far too awkward without the drumroll.
  • Fixed a bug which allowed VR and screen players to use opposite hands when shaking hands. (But not in Rec Royale... it's still there)
  • Screen players can no longer stealthily shake VR players' hands to friend them without their consent. That's right - no more ninja-friending. Wait, when did my friends list become full of ninjas?
  • Fixed a bug which allowed VR players to shake screen players' hands from across the room. You'll have to find another way to make your long distance friendships work.
  • Fixed Rotator and Piston Gizmos behaving erratically or not working when players leave the room, along with other small weirdnesses that could happen when the room-authority leaves.
  • Things attached to other things via Gizmos should no longer jitter/lag in Players' hands. Most cases of "things lagging behind other things" or jittering back and forth should be gone. Players can still jump around a bit due to network latency.
  • Fixed a bug where taking a new creator announcement photo cleared title and body text.
  • Fixed some incorrect reticle displays for ranged weapons.

Rec Room UPDATE - the "Brimming with Excitement" edition[]

Poseable_Hat_Update!

Poseable Hat Update!

February 11, 2021

You can now customize how you wear your hat! Try equipping a new hat and use the new UI (it’s in the mirror in your Dorm Room) to personalize your style. Need a rakish angle on your fedora? Want to turn your baseball cap backwards like a 90's rapper? Wish your tiara played nicely with your mullet? We got you covered!

There may be a few minor hat adjustments in the coming weeks as we get all these settings just right!

https://imgur.com/a/fsizFse

Also, you can now share your artwork directly to rec.net from the Art Canvas, Square Art Canvas, and Whiteboard. We've made this extra special with a few helpful features:

  • We want your artwork to be captured as beautifully as possible, so we boosted the quality at which it's exported by significantly reducing the compression. This means your photo looks great even if you zoom in a bunch.
  • The aspect ratio of your art is preserved when sharing. Bet you didn't know... behind the scenes, each piece of art is 1024x1024 pixels. When you share to rec.net, your artwork is upscaled to preserve its aspect ratio. Specifically, the Square Art Canvas remains 1024x1024, but the rectangular Art Canvas is upscaled to 1429x1024 and the whiteboard is upscaled to 1536x1024.
  • When you share, the image on rec.net is automatically oriented to match your canvas in-game. If your artwork is laying flat, there's no automatic orientation, so make sure it's upright the way you like it before sharing!
  • We also made sure that rec.net was ready to display your photos nicely. You can find your photos alongside your ShareCam photos on your profile. e.g., https://rec.net/user/gribbly/photos

General Improvements

  • Added a leaderboard projector to track wins and tags in Rec Royale.
  • On iOS, the red on screen damage indicator displays correctly again.
  • New look and layout for the watch store that shows off the items better and gets you to what you want more quickly!
