About[]

The Curse of the Crimson Cauldron is the 3rd Quest to be added into Rec Room. It is the sequel to the first quest, the Quest for the Golden Trophy.

CrimsonMap

In the #RecRoomOriginal room ^CrimsonCauldron, 1 to 4 players use medieval and fantasy weaponry to team up and fight through 9 acts of fantasy "monsters" put together by the art department. Successfully completing all 9 acts and defeating the final boss rewards each player with a chest containing one item from the Crimson Cauldron Cosmetic Sets, the rank of which is determined by your Quest Rating. The room ^CrimsonCauldron is a #pickup room, i.e., teleporting and "walking" VR players as well as Screen Mode players may play in the same room.

A mini-update in December 2018 added back holsters to the game. This allows players to carry a weapon in each hand plus one on their back.

Castle Courtyard When you first spawn, go to the right where you will encounter 4 Goblins and one Bomber up on a platform facing you. Once you kill them, cut across to the left side where you will come across one Bomber and two Shield Goblins. There is a 50/50 shot of spawning two flyers: one red and one green. Proceeding forth, you will stumble upon two Bombers on horizontally adjacent platforms. Once you aggro the Bomber to the right, he will start firing at you. Keep in mind that his bombs have a splash affect so even if you are just in the radius, you will get hit. It's not a bad idea to knock the first Bomber off the platform so he can't hit you. Once you aggro the second Bomber, you will also aggro the 6 Shield Goblins guarding the exit door. It's recommended that you bring a double damage potion for the last wave as the potion gives players the ability to damage the Goblin's shields. Upon killing the last enemy, you will hear a distinct triumphant sound letting you know that it's okay to proceed.
Forest Path After exiting the castle, you take a journey through the forest to get to the campsite. At the spawn point, you will encounter 3 Goblins. Alerting them will make them chase you. Upon killing 1/3 of those Goblins, you will trigger a spawn of 2 flyers and 2 runners. Attempting to move ahead will spawn 5 flyers on the backside of a tree branch. Proceeding forth, you will trigger a spawn of flyers around you. It's a good idea to go in the Hunter's Cabin as you have access to double damage potions and a ten second delay. There is a small room to the right of the flyer's spawn points which I recommend as you have ample time to take the flyers out. After killing a couple waves of green flyers, you will spawn a wave consisting of two red flyers. Proceeding onward, you will encounter Goblins by two explosive barrels. The common strategy here is to blow up the two barrels killing all of the Goblins. Upon doing away with the green Goblins, you will spawn two red Goblins on the backside. Moving up will start a spawn of many green Goblins, one red Goblin, and 4 green Flyers in various rooms around you. Attempting to proceed will start a spawn of 3 Bombers back to back along with 3 waves of Goblins and flyers. Proceeding forth, you will trigger a spawn behind you of 2 flyers and 2 runners. Killing all of them lets you move on but oh no! There are 3 waves of green flyers along with red flyers blocking your path!
Campsite The campsite is a large open room where many waves of goblins spawn. Upon spawning in you will encounter 2 Bombers, and 3 Goblins. It is a good idea to use the explosive barrel next to the Bomber on the right. This will kill the three Goblins around the campfire and the 3 Goblins. Attempting to aggro the Goblins will start a spawn of 5 more Goblins around the explosive barrels. Upon killing all of them will start a spawn of 3 Elite Goblins on the backside and 2 Bombers based on the player's location. It's recommended that you kill the Elites before killing the bombers. Killing the bombers will start a spawn of many flyers in various areas of the room. Taking care of the flyers will spawn a Bomber on a pillar and a variety of Goblins on the right and left. Killing all of them starts a spawn of 4 Elite Goblins and a Bomber on the left. Killing the bomber first is encouraged as you won't spawn another wave. Killing the Elites will spawn the final wave of all the previous Goblins in random locations.
Deep Forest The deep forest is a large enclosed room where you will encounter Imp Witches at the spawn area. Witches shoot orbs that can be deflected by swords, shields, pots, and double damage potions. Upon killing the Witches you will spawn a wave of green goblins and then two more Witches. Proceeding forth, you will encounter 2 bombers at the stairwell tree platform. As you progress down the stairs, you will trigger a spawn behind you consisting of many green goblins. Killing most of this wave will spawn two shield goblins. Attempting to move ahead will spawn a wave of five green flyers. Once you take out three fifths of that wave, you will spawn 3 green goblins. They spawn based on your location. Upon killing all of them, you will spawn two Elites depending on your location. Proceeding onward, you will encounter 2 bombers on a platform and 1 bomber facing at you on a separate platform. Upon alerting the bombers, you will trigger a spawn of two Elite Goblins. Once you kill one of them, you will spawn three Basic Goblins.
Bog Kill a hoard of imps, and use the floats to cross the swampy water (if on walk, it is possible to climb over the large rock to the right). After killing all the imps over the bog, you will encounter two bombers on adjacent platforms. Attempting to move ahead will spawn a wave of flyers over the second half of the bog. Upon killing the better portion of that wave will spawn an Imp Witch. Killing the Witch will spawn two more Witches. Use the buoys to assist you in jumping over the bog. Proceeding forth will start a spawn of many flyers, goblins, both of their elite counterparts as well as some bombers. Don't be too quick to cheer as a lowly bog monster will rise up from its home and try to kill you. Bows and attack potions are encouraged but it is possible to air strike with swords...
Mines The steam kills you, be careful! Have patience, but this is one of the easier levels with more green enemies than red ones. The first enemies you encounter will be 4 cannon goblins. Upon killing three fourths of the bombers, you will spawn a wave of 5 flyers right by an explosive barrel which is useful in a pinch. Attempting to move ahead will aggro some goblins playing ping pong. Proceeding forth, you will encounter a wave of many shield goblins. Upon killing the shield goblins will aggro 1 bomber, two green Barrels and goblins in various areas of the room. Note that some goblins may spawn behind you including 4 Elite Goblins which are triggered upon moving to the exit platform.
Deep Mines After exiting the mines, you descend into the Deep Mines. There are 6 Elite Goblins and one Elite Barrel Knight waiting for you at the top of the ramp. You can shoot the explosive barrel with a bow from a distance which will take out all of the Elites in one go. Proceeding forth, you will encounter two Green Barrel Knights. It's important to know which barrel to kill because one barrel will spawn runners but the other one will spawn flyers. I recommend killing the first barrel. That will spawn the runners. Killing all of the runners will aggro the second barrel. This will spawn the flyers right by the explosive barrels (hint hint hint). Attempting to move ahead will spawn a wave of flyers and two Elite Goblins. Use the explosive barrels to your advantage to take out the barrels and flyers.
Bell Tower Stairs Ascend slowly, leaving one person to guard the stairs and another to go to the top and kill the imps that spawn up there. Use the exploding barrels to your advantage.
Finale Hit the magic ball back at the witch 3-4 times while fending off countless other enemies. A good strategy for this is to hop up in a window of your choosing and take out the witch from there. Note that slightly easier but more frantic way to conquer this is to stay in a window sill and only focus on the witch. This method takes a shorter time but you have to deal with more monsters.

Scoring[]

20170425030832 1

Two sizes of pots that contain various quantities of points. You can hit them, or pick them up and throw them.

Scoring in the Curse of the Crimson Cauldron is very straightforward. Points are shown in the form of gold when you earn them. Contributing to killing an enemy gives you gold proportional to how much you contributed; although the game will often award additional points due to latency in the tracking of all players actions. Breaking pots also gives you gold, though significantly less than gold earned from killing enemies. All gold goes directly to your point total the moment you earn it.

Dying to an enemy costs you a large amount of gold, and friendly-firing a teammate with a ranged weapon is a moderate gold penalty.

At the end of the run, the total gold score of all teammates put together determines the Quest Rating of your team, and the reward rarity you get.

Small pots give 50 points while big pots grant 100 points.

The Final Boss[]

The Crimson Cauldron Witch launching a purple orb

The final boss is the Crimson Witch at the top in the bell tower. To defeat them, you must use a sword to hit back the purple orbs they launch at you (similar to Paddleball, and exactly like witches encountered earlier). While fighting, various mobs will spawn around the arena in waves, depending on how many times you knocked out the witch. The first wave has no additional enemies and it is imperative to return the orb 3 times, the subsequent times take 4 hits and spawn progressively more enemies.
